3 Initialize the System

We use the LecCorder Initializer to define information about your

  • Lecture name, author, and title
  • Slide beginning page, source directory, and type
  • Upload computer host, username and password, and destination directory
The Initializer program is accessible through its desktop icon, click this icon to start the Initializer.

   

Lecture Tab

Short lecture name defines a file where your presentation will be stored. This name should contain no spaces or dates (the date is defined separately). See our example name below.

Author/presenter lists the name of this person. A specific type of format is not required here.

Date and time The date format is MM/DD/YYYY See the example below for time format. The Initializer will show you the correct format if your entry is incorrect.

Slides Tab

URL to starting page defines the first page of the lecture in html format. Use index.htm or sld001.htm Use just the filename, the complete URL path is created automatically later on.

Slides reside on local host defines whether the slides are stored locally. Typically the lecture slides are stored on the local machine and this box is check on. Should the slides reside on a remote computer, check this box off. In this case, the URL to starting page above must define the remote address and directory/file name.

Slides source directory Assuming the slides are stored on the local computer, as in this example, this directory defines the location of the starting page. Note that this directory location is the same directory as defined in Layout options in step 1 Prepare Your Lecture Material.

PowerPoint presentation This checkbox must be checked on if you are using PowerPoint. Check this box off if you are using html files as the pages of your lecture.

Slide size The size of the lecture slides should be 640x480 pixels    

Upload Tab

Host This defines the IP address of the host computer running the LecCorder server. Consult with your system administrator to properly define this address

User login and Password These fields define you username and password login to the host computer running the LecCorder server.

Target directory Defines the directory on the host computer where your published LecCorder session will be uploaded for others to access. (Note to system administrators: the Target directory is an FTP alias set by the Microsoft Peer Web Service Manager)

Once the three tabs, Lecture, Slides, and Upload are complete, click the Init button. A list of files being transferred by LecCorder will be displayed. After several seconds, status "Done" will appear. Should any errors messages appear, you will be prompted to update the incorrect settings. Click the Init button after making these changes.
