What
is LecCorder?
LecCorder is a complete
system for recording live lectures and publishing them to a web site automatically.
There are a number of sophisticated features such as automatic conversion
to Internet quality video, and synchronization of slide playback with the
presenters' lecture. The key feature however, is ease of use. LecCorder
is an automatic lecture recording and publishing system.
Who
needs LecCorder?
LecCorder is ideal for
anyone who wishes to publish his or her presentations on their website (or
CD ROMs). Trainers, lecturers, proposal writers, consultants, marketing
teams - anyone who delivers public presentation could make use of LecCorder.
How
much does it cost?
This depends on the system
you buy - desktop system, portable system, and software only system are
available. We maintain very thin margins on hardware and concentrate on
developing first class software. Please call us at (315) 443-1118 or send
e-mail to sales@CollabWorx.
How
large a presentation can it handle?
We routinely record and
publish hour to two hour long presentations. Shorter presentations such
as 20 -30 minutes long are easily handled.
How
does it work?
LecCorder combines all
tools needed to capture, convert, format, and publish a live presentation
into one easy to use package. It is a product designed for the non-technical
user. For more details, consult the on-line technical documentation.
What
platforms can it be installed on?
LecCorder encoding server
is designed for PC computers running Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000. LecCorder
playback will run on any platform. The result of LecCorder can be published
on ANY standard Web server.
Are
there any special requirements?
We currently use Netscape
Communicator 4.5 and later or Internet Explorer 5 or later as the web browser.
All LecCorder programs run within a web browser.
What's
the difference between a presentation that has been converted to HTML
files and stored on a web site, and a LecCorder presentation published
on a web site?
There are two important
differences. First, an audio and video recording of the presenter's delivery
of the session is preserved in the LecCorder publication. And second, the
presentation content is recorded and synchronized with the audio/video recording.
Storing presentation files in HTML format stores the content of a lecture
on-line. LecCorder plays back the lecture.
Do
I have to use a web browser to present my training session? Could I just
use PowerPoint slides instead?
No. LecCorder works by
integrating the content presented within a web browser with a audio/video
recording of the presentation. PowerPoint slides are easily converted to
HTML slides, and presented within a web browser. Our introductory demonstration
"My first LecCorder presentation" shows you how to do this step by step.
I
have a PC I think I could use to run the LecCorder software on. What are
the tradeoffs between buying the turnkey system with buying the software
version only?
You can accomplish the
same result by buying the LecCorder system software and installing it yourself
as buying the complete system. We'll be glad to give you our technical specifications
for the PC (processor, disk storage configuration, memory, operating system
etc.), and for the peripherals (cameras, microphone). You can certainly
achieve the same result yourself. The only difference is a matter of convenience.
Could
I record my training session on videotape and manually combine with my
presentation slides? Why do I need LecCorder?
Yes you can. Over four
years ago, we did precisely what you describe to manually publish lectures
on to the web. Anyone who has done so will agree that the process is laborious
and error prone. LecCorder automates the capture, conversion, and publishing
process, freeing you up to concentrate on the training session.
